California Native Plants

California has more native plants than any other state in the nation, making it one of the world's biodiversity hotspots. At least one-third of California’s plants are not found anywhere else in the world. Our native garden is home to many of these amazing native California plants.

Why Use Natives?
Why Use Natives?
  • Beautify the landscape – color, form, texture, and aroma.
  • Nuture pollinators and other wildlife
  • Save water – once established – up to 80% less water needed
  • Thrive in our local climate – adapt to our natural cycle – cool, wet winters with lush growth and slow down in dry, hot summers
  • Prefer our soils – no amendments = no contaminates to ground water
  • Cut pesticide use – fewer pest problems as they have naturally co-evolved
  • Minimize your carbon footprint – grown in state, reduce carbon footprint, support local economy
  • Reduce maintenance – not NO maintenance
  • Can be installed at low cost – use one gallons, save on installation costs
  • Cool the environment – water thrifty
  • Harmonize with diverse garden styles - formal, contemporary, rustic
  • Create a sense of place – diversity of our natural flora – connect with CA past and future

"A plant's whole purpose is to propagate."
